MIDWEEK BUZZzz: My New ESA!!

Dave Pease

Happy Wednesday! I am recovering nicely from the flu and figured this would be a good week to start our new section called "Midweek Buzzzz!" Now as many out there who have had conversations with me, I take the our Neuropathy Info page and online community very seriously, as I too suffer with the condition and love being able to pass on some of my knowledge of the topic on to others. Also, I have always wanted the subject of the articles to have a personal viewpoint as well. I own and have tried all products suggested in articles and they are truly things that have helped me personally unless mentioned otherwise in the actual article. This holds true to the other suggestions in articles as well, which brings us to Emotional Support Animals.

In December 2019, I wrote an the article Have Peripheral Neuropathy?? Get a pet or more specifically, an Emotional Support Animal (ESA)!! Now the furry feline on the cover of that article was Bob and indeed is my ESA kitty who never leaves my side. However, the doggies pictured in the article were past doggies during my lifetime (always loved animals). I had not actually felt capable to handle a new dog since getting neuropathy in 2015. Well the keyword there is HAD!! This article motivated me to take the plunge right after the new year and get a new puppy! Yes, I said PUPPY!!

Say hello to Leah! In this picture, she is in her post-operation t-shirt to prevent licking. So while I am sure you are asking yourself what beauuuutiful pure-bred dog is this adorable pouch, she is actually a brindle mut-botique (my way of making her sound classy) that I found on pet-finder and in turn from a local rescue. Petfinder is a great site and just gives rescues and animal shelters a place to advertise their orphans. So while not a fully trained ESA yet, Leah is well on her way! While all puppy for sure, she has truly touched my heart and I can honestly say she has relieved some of my neuropathy pain as well as has gotten me up and around much more.

My favorite time by far is night time (well until 10:00 when she goes in her crate) where Leah is never anywhere else then right by my side, under now "our" favorite blanket. This is the biggest pain reliever I could take, even though Leah thinks it is when she sneaks a lick of my feet (YUCK). Don't worry the blanket is queen sized so Bob the kitty lays on the other side; however, I now may have a new condition called pet blanket claustrophobia!

Leah has brought joy to anyone she has

come into contact with and while it has only been just under two months since we have had her, I now have no idea why I waited. Indeed puppies can be handfuls, I could not find her one day and walked into the bedroom (that was blocked off) and found sleeping beauty fast asleep like this picture shows. How can a dog sleep like that! How did she get in the bedroom!! Why isn't she waking up while I am taking this picture!!!

Big dog, little dog, cat, kitten, fish, turtle, etc... Animals as ESA's are a miracle to chronic pain conditions. Check out pet-finder and find yours today! Read Have Peripheral Neuropathy?? Get a pet or more specifically, an Emotional Support Animal (ESA)!! if you have questions about ESA's on planes or in rental housing. Oh and join our Facebook Online Community and show us a picture of your ESA!
